Kiehls Midnight recovery botanical cleansing oil review

Hello everyone,

Hope you all are doing well? Hope the New Year kicked off on right note for everyone. With every passing year I realize that I am becoming a better version of myself. I am beginning to understand what skincare works for me, what kind of makeup looks good on me, what dresses to choose from that best defines my body shape and most of all what company to keep. I have also given a serious thought on pursuing my hobbies this year, one of which is my blog that I have neglected for a year now. Let’s get back into business and share some honest AF reviews on this page.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Zea Mays Germ Oil / Corn Germ Oil, Isopropyl Myristate, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Polyglyceryl-6 Dicaprate, Oenothera Biennis Oil / Evening Primrose Oil, Polyglyceryl-2 Oleate, Squalane, Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil / Coriander Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil / Lavender Oil, Isopropyl Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Dicaprylyl Ether, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil / Rosemary Leaf Oil, Linalool, Tocopherol, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Glycine Soja Oil / Soybean Oil, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate.

My thoughts:
We all are pretty much aware and in awe of the Midnight recovery concentrate a cult product from the brand. A friend of mine, who I am not in talking terms with now introduced me to this with a deluxe sample and I immediately fell in love with it.

My skin has been acting up since last 6 months it’s leaning more towards dry, dehydrated (not loving wearing makeup kind and believe me that's a curse to a makeup lover). Introducing any new product into my skincare routine is not less than a gamble these days. Having had fantastic results with the MRC oil, I at once, took the plunge.

The product comes in a plastic bottle with a pump dispenser which makes it quite easy to use. The texture is not too thick or watery. Its key ingredients comprise of a blend of essential oils of Squalane (a plant derived lipid similar in structure to natural skin lipids, Lavender essential oil and evening primrose oil, rich in Omega -6 Fatty acids.

I take 3 to 4 pumps of the product depending upon the amount of makeup I am wearing on a given day. The texture of the oil helps in indulging in a good facial massage, breaking down all of the makeup including waterproof stuff. I then spray the Avene Thermal water on to my face which emulsifies the oil turning it milky. I then splash plain water, rinsing every bit of the product and then pat dry.

My skin feels cleaner, calmer and softer right after the cleansing. I do not go for a second cleanse when I use this cleansing oil. Least I would do is to take a cotton pad drenched in a mild toner and go over the face and neck and I am good to go for my next skincare step which involves an essence, also from Kiehls which is their Iris extract activating essence (This stuff is incredible, more on this later).

This cleansing oil does not strip the moisture from your skin. It will work for all skin types including oily skin as it does not leave a residue like the one from the body shop’s, their Camomile cleansing oil. Sensitive skin people can do a patch test as  this contains essential oils.

I would like to point out that this product is not travel friendly. Every single time I have travelled with it, there was so much wastage of the product as it leaked even though I had locked the bottle by twisting the pump.
Final thoughts:
I have been using this oil from last 3 months and have developed a major liking for this after the Clinique Take the day off cleansing balm. This product did not break me out or caused any irritation. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys pampering their skin at the end of a long day or even as a do the job and get over with kind of a product. My only gripe is that it’s not travel friendly and of course it’s on the pricier side.

Did you use this cleansing oil? Do you like it? Please do share your experience, I would love to know that.

Thank you for reading as always.

Review of MAC Liptensity in smoked almond

Hi everyone,

On a recent visit to the MAC store to restock on my brush cleanser I happened to casually ask the MUA(Makeup Artist) as to when the Liptensity lipsticks were launching in India and he said TOMORROW! I just screamed with joy on the inside J The guy was very kind enough to let me swatch and take pictures of these striking lipsticks. He also told me that being a regular at our store, I could even purchase them before they hit the shelves tomorrow with every chance of my favourite shade being sold out... and that was enough to lure me in to the offer and I brought home this gorgeous beauty called smoked almond.

I usually don’t experiment with lip colours as all I ever wear is Mehr again from MAC. Either I purchase it or get the same shade upon returning six empties as a part of Back to Mac offer. I have always loved a good  n*de lipstick over bold colours as I feel out of my comfort zone wearing them. However, I do love a red lip (Russian Red) once in a while.

(from top left to right: Smoked almond, Toast n butter, Doe, Medium rare and Driftwood)

This shade is a beautiful warm toned bright rose brown colour which will look great on all complexions. These lipsticks hold intense amount of pigment and this gelled base melts on contact with the lips providing fully saturated colour on one single swipe.

It wears beautifully on the lips without drying them out and even fills in the lines on the lips giving a very fuller finish. It survived a drink and a meal still leaving a decent colour on the lips. I have got a wear time of 4 hours after which I had to re-apply. I have extremely dry and chapped lips and I did not have any issues when wearing this lipstick  however, as they are semi-matte/satin I would suggest you wear a lip balm underneath or prep your lips with a lip scrub before application. The colour is very opaque and glides  on smoothly.

These lipsticks come in 24 stunning shades . A colour for everyone I must say. Love their packaging as you no longer have to read the label to figure the shade name. I have nothing bad to say about these except for the fact that these are Limited Edition. I really really hope that Mac brings them as permanent because they are incredibly lovely.

These are priced at Rs 1850/ $21/£17.50

Quantity: 3.6gms

Hope you are able to grab your favourite lip colour before they get sold out.

Thank you for reading as always.

Zelens Z Pure liquid cleansing balm - Review

Hello Everyone,

I am back to blogging after a long hiatus and it feels so good to be penning my thoughts down again!! If you are a new reader? Hi, I am Raveena and I am a beauty blogger/owner at Cheeksnblush. Welcome to my world of pretty little things that bring me immense joy. While I was away from my blog for close to a year I did not put a fence on my e-commerce activities of buying more makeup and skincare... Ha. So, here I am with a new product review that has been tried and tested by myself.

Brand: Zelens by Dr Marko Lens

Product name: Zelens Z-pure liquid cleansing balm

Quantity: 125ml

Price: £ 50

About the product:

With 20 years of research in skin aging the founder of Zelens Innovation Dr Marko Lens is driven by his clinical experience as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and his deep knowledge of formulation chemistry combining active biotechnology ingredients with pure molecules derived from botanicals.

Zelens products are substantiated by rigorous independent clinical testing conducted at renowned institutions.

Zelens do not test on animals and also do not use animal derived ingredients. All products are free from parabens.

My take on the product:

While the brand intro was picked up from their website here the review part is my very own. I am no aesthetician and may have little to nil knowledge on the ingredients so my reviews are based solely on my experience with the product.

Irrespective of the fact that you wear makeup or not, having a cleansing routine is of paramount importance and if you wear makeup like I do then, cleansing can become a little ritual. Which means there is going to be a first cleanse followed by the second because you need every bit of that gunk out of your face before you hibernate.

This facial cleanser from Zelens is lush. This liquid balm has a mild citrusy smell that is just very fresh and nothing overpowering I must mention. I love the packaging of this product as it comes in a soft rubber like plastic-y bottle (travel friendly) with a pump that lets you control the quantity you need without contaminating it.I apply it on to dry skin and rub my palms together to induce some warmth because only then I have noticed that the cleanser glides effortlessly for a proper massage and then clean my face with a hot flannel while you could also add a few drops of water to emulsify it into a milky texture and rinse off … Tada… your face immediately looks brighter, feels softer and plumped. I cannot rave enough about this product as I love it that much. My skin feels like it’s been given a boost of moisture and this has helped me save on my serums and moisturisers as I need such tiny amounts to follow up with. This cleanser removes makeup effectively but why would you want use this beautiful product to do that? I rather use bioderma micellar water or a cleansing oil to do that job and then use this for a second cleanse. oh yes, this product did not break me out and neither clogs the pores.

FYI I have normal to dry skin. However, I would not recommend this product for oily skin types as it can be a little heavy. Also, people with sensitive skin may want to consider trying a sample first because of the essential oils and mild fragrance present in it.

(cleanser emulsifies upon adding water )

Final thoughts:

This shiso-infused cleanser is a joy to use. I love products that show instant results and this one does. Use it as a first cleanse in the morning or as a second cleanse in the evening to feel the luxury this stunning item serves for the equally luxurious price tag. If you can care to cough up some money on a cleanser you must check this out. I am going to get good use out of this fall/winter. Yes, I would happily endorse it.
P.S. I have purchased this product and the review is not paid  for either.

Thank you for reading as always. :)

Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi Miraculous beauty fluid - Review

Hey everyone,

These days I am obsessed with skincare like never before, the reason being I believe that prevention is better than cure. You can delay the signs of aging by using the right products but not erase the ones that have already formed in my opinion (I am not talking Botox and cosmetic surgeries here). I have a combination skin that is slightly troubled with hormonal breakouts, some redness, a few visible pores, some acne scars from before, some fine lines around my eye area, a few dry patches here and there and ofcourse the dull skin. Holy cow! That’s a hell lot of problems than I imagined. Well nothing that makeup can’t hide but I may not always have the time to wear makeup but also I would like to keep it real sometimes and for that I need to help my skin look its best with some conscious efforts. So, today I am reviewing a product that claims to combat a few of my skin problems please read on to see what I think it did.

Product name: Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi face oil

Quantity: 12 ml

Price: RS 1350

Kama Ayurveda says:

A unique 100% Ayurvedic anti-ageing serum that hydrates cleans and illuminates the skin. Miraculous Beauty Fluid is a unique blend of oils and herbs formulated to help skin look young and healthy. In Ayurveda rare, pure saffron is known to help illuminate skin color; extracts of Indian madder and the Banyan tree help smooth fine lines; Vetiver, sandalwood and lotus cool and cleanse while helping to clear blemishes; and liqorice acts as an antiseptic, protects the skin from bacterial and fungal infections.

My experience:

I had picked up this product last year and since then I have used it on and off and there is a reason to that which you will read. This facial oil now known as night serum comes in a 12ml size in a dark glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the liquid. The oil is orange/yellow in colour which strongly smells of essential oils and herbs and I don’t mind that at all because we are talking Ayurveda here and thank god it’s not perfume-y and is all natural.

After cleansing my face I spray the Avene Thermal spring water on my face and take 2 to 3 drops of this oil and pat apply all over including the neck area. I do not massage this into the skin as doing so breaks me out and that is irrespective of any facial oil I may use. I continue to pat it on the skin till it gets slightly absorbed as it takes time to sink in. Its best you apply it an hour before you retire to bed as it can leave stains on your linen.

I have noticed that I woke up to a brighter, radiant and softer skin the next morning. The thing with any skincare product is using it on a daily basis defeats the purpose so, I chose to apply this with a gap of every 3 to 4 days or a night before any special day. This oil though is on slightly heavier side compared to other dry oils on the market but does a great job without breaking me out.

This oil will suit anyone including oily skin however, I would suggest them to use just 1 or 2 drops of it during the winters for better results.

Final thoughts:

I am not sure about its anti-aging properties because I don’t use it on a daily basis but if your skin feels soft and hydrated I am sure it will delay the formation of fine lines. It has helped my skin stay nourished during the winters thus taking care of dry patches and imparting the much needed radiance and glow.  It’s quite pricey as you get just 12ml for RS 1890 and most of the other oils in the market come in a 30ml bottle for almost the same price. So, you can pick your choices. Nevertheless, it is a lovely product to have.

Thanks for reading.

Benefit It's Potent eye cream review

Hello everyone,

They say your eyes are your windows to the world so what about the fine lines around them? Are those the signs of aging? Well, unfortunately yes. Your first signs of aging appear around the delicate area of your eyes which is 5 to 10 times thinner than the rest of your skin so you now know how fragile your under eye area can be and that we really have to treat it and care for it well. I have realized this too late and I would do whatever it takes to restore it. In this post I will be reviewing an under eye cream that is supposed to brighten the under eye area, reduce the appearance of dark circles and delay the signs of aging.

Product name: Benefit It’s Potent eye cream

Quantity: 14.2 g 0.5 oz.

Price: RS 2450

Benefit says:

It's potent! Eye cream fades dark circles & helps smooth fine lines for brighter, younger-looking eyes. Contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity & firmness, a blend of hydrating botanical extracts including apple extract, known to help boost collagen, & loquat extract, known to help protect the skin from free radical damage.

My experience:

I have used this product till I exhausted it and that speaks a lot about it. Well, there could be 2 things either I loved it to bits or I could not see any benefit but in hope that I would, I continued using till I reached the bottom of the jar. Well, in my case it’s the latter. Honestly speaking, I really wanted to like this product and do like it to an extent that I used up the entire tub. The appearance of fine lines or crow’s feet is now evident with age and stress and I can see that already but this eye cream did not help in improving the current condition.

This product comes in a cute adorable glass jar packaging with a screw cap. As much as the tub packaging is likable the contamination of the product is inevitable. Plus all the potent ingredients get destroyed once the product is exposed to air. This thick looking cream just melts around the under eye area hydrating it immediately and adds some life around dull eyes. It sits well under my foundation and concealer without creasing. The under eye area remains soft and supple for a long time. However, does it help in reducing the lines around my eyes? Certainly not.

Overall thoughts:

I like this product but I don’t love it. This product is best suited for someone whose concern is limited to dull and dry under eye area. The brands claims to fade dark circles and restore the elasticity of the skin fall short. I won’t be repurchasing it as I feel my daily moisturiser does that for me and I would rather look up for something more effective for this price.

Clinique all about shadow soft matte - review Ax Chocolate covered cherry

Hello everyone,

Skincare has been on my radar lately but I love my makeup equally. I am someone who enjoys wearing smoky eyes but nothing too intense and I am always looking for eyeshadows that are more wearable both for day time and evenings. One such eyeshadow is what I will be reviewing today.

Product name: Clinique all about shadow soft matte single eyeshadow

Quantity: 2.2 g / .07 OZ

Price: RS 1200  / $16

Clinique says:

Creamy colour glides in one smooth stroke. Longwearing. Crease and fade resistant, too. Ophthalmologist tested for even the most sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

My experience:

It’s a single eyeshadow with a soft matte texture to it with no shimmer at all. It comes in a beautiful compact packaging with a built in mirror and an applicator that is good enough for touch ups. These single eyeshadows come in 26 different colours as shown on Clinique’s website. The colour I picked up is called AX Chocolate covered cherry which is a beautiful brownish dark plum shade appropriate for fall/winter. As I said I love doing a smoky eye and this shade fits the bill perfectly. I apply this using a flat eyeshadow brush patting it across the entire eye lid. I am a no fuss person when it comes to eye-makeup so I mostly use my eyeshadows as an all over lid colour and finish my look with a black kohl on my waterline and this just works perfectly for me.

In the swatches below I have applied this with and without a primer and have heavily swatched it so it kinda looks darker than it actually is but on the eyes it just looks more subtle and I will add a picture of me sporting this shade soon. During the day I apply this shade without the use of primer and carry this in my makeup bag for touch ups (I don't mind doing makeup re- touches at all ) which is needed every 2 hours if you have oily lids and for evenings when I need more depth, I wear it with the primer and it lasts on me for a good 6 to 7 hours. There is a slight fall out so I suggest doing your base makeup towards the end or use a tissue to cover the under eye area when applying this, whatever works best for you.

Final thoughts:

There are some brilliant shades in this range and I am keen to discover a few more. I love how this can be worn both soft and also can be intensified using a primer. MAC eyeshadows retail at RS 1450 for 1.2 grams that don’t come with a built in mirror or an applicator considering that I think this is worth the price you pay for.

P.S. I love Clinique

Kama Ayurveda Bringadi Intensive hair treatment hair oil review

Hey everyone,

I have always, always researched the web to either find products or home remedies for ways to control hair fall, promote hair growth and stop premature greying but nothing really worked or helped. One day at the mall I spotted a newly opened store of Kama Ayurveda and I just walked in to see what they had to offer. I had told myself that this would be the last chance at hair experiments and my last resort would be seeing a dermatologist for my hair problems. I was given this oil at once, when I told them my hair concerns and I bought the smaller version of this hair oil because at the back of my head I knew this was not going to help either. So, did it work? Please read on…

Product name: Kama Ayurveda Bringadi Intensive hair treatment oil

Quantity: comes in 2 variants 100 for RS 450 and 250 ml for RS 995 respectively

Kama Ayurveda says:

This product is meant to prevent hair loss, dandruff and premature greying. It is also a natural conditioner for lush hair growth. In addition, it cools the head. Intensive Hair Treatment, the secret of Indians' lush, glossy hair, is a blend of herbs processed in pure sesame oil and milk. The herbal formula includes indigo (neeli), Eclipta Alba and gooseberry to promote hair growth; liquorices which acts as an anti-fungal agent; and balloon vine which prevents scalp infection.

My experience with it:

I bought this oil a while ago and now I am ready to review it. I apply this oil twice a week for 3 hours before my hair wash covering my entire scalp including the roots and ends and gently massaging to help the oil penetrate well. This oil has a strong smell of essential oils which is present in all of their products and I don’t mind it all. The oil is slightly thicker but not sticky and I need 2 rounds of shampooing with Luke warm water to remove every trace of it. I have noticed that if I don’t condition after washing my hair, my hair appears rough and frizzy. So, conditioning is mandatory irrespective of me using this oil or not.

After its very first use I started noticing my hair showed signs of improvement it had a nice shine and it looked tamed. I was pleased and I religiously commenced using it to see exceptional improvements that included controlled hair fall, my hair grew faster and it delayed the greying of hair which had recently begun. By the way this is one of the bestselling product from Kama Ayurveda and I sure know why.

Final thoughts:

This product stands true to its claims and I have experienced them myself. I am very lazy when it comes to applying hair oil but this product excites me because I get results out of this. Men and women if you are looking for a versatile product to deal with all your hair problems that includes hair loss, dandruff, premature greying, promoting hair growth your wait ends here. It’s a remarkable product and I satisfyingly recommend it.

Kama ship’s outside India to and this information is available on their website. Indian customers, Kama has started cash on delivery with a free shipping on orders above RS 1499. So, please check their website here if you are interested. No, I am not being paid to write this review this product is my own purchase in fact a repurchase. J
